pvribbon.comPHOTOVOLTAIC = ELECTRICITY FROM LIGHT

The photovoltaic (PV) process converts free solar energy - the most abundant energy source on the planet - directly into electricity to be stored in batteries. Photovoltaic systems use daylight to power ordinary electrical equipment, for example, household appliances, computers and lighting.

  • A photovoltaic cell or PV cell is made from silicon wafers or by sputtering two or more thin layers of silicon on glass, metal, or plastic.
  • When exposed to light, electrical charges are generated and conducted away by photovoltaic ribbon or PV ribbon as direct current (DC).
  • Single pv cell electrical output is small, so multiple cells are joined with interconnect ribbon. These interconnect ribbons feed current to buss wire or cross ties on the periphery of the solar panel and the entire unit is sealed under glass, forming a photovoltaic module or solar panel.
  • Ulbrich Precision Flat Wire has grown to be the world’s largest manufacturer of tinned, precision copper flat wire (PV ribbon) used to collect the output from solar panels or electric modules. Our interconnect ribbon is used in both silicon solar cells as well as thin film solar modules.
  • Interconnect wire or PV ribbon is also available using lead-free solder for the latest developments in soldering technology, including automated irradiation machines.
