Solar Module Solutions

Photovoltaics is the process where light from the sun is generated to form energy.  This energy is then harnessed as power.  A semiconductor material also known as substrate material is used to absorb the light from the sun to the solar modules.

Solar modules utilize two different technolgies:  Crystalline silicon and Thin Film.  The concept is essentially the same regarding the conversion of energy while the technology is different.

Crystalline Silicon
Crystalline silicon predominately utilizes silicon for its substrate material and depending on the form of silicon, is known as Monocrystalline, Multicrystalline and Ribbon silicon.  Crystalline silicon technology is the most commonly used technology.

Thin Film
Thin film technology is relatively new technology when compared to crystalline silicon.  Thin film solar modules utilize less material in its manufacturing process and is more flexible when selecting substrate materials.  Stainless steels are often used as substrate materials in thin film modules.

Ulbrich Solutions
Ulbrich provides the solar cell tabbing and string interconnect ribbons that are used to connect multiple solar cells and transfer the energy to usable power in crystalline silicon modules. Our newest solar solution is Light-Capturing Ribbon™. Up to 80% of the photocurrent from light that strikes the ribbon is recovered - far better than the 5% recovered by standard interconnected wire. Ulbrich supplies metal substrate used as a semiconductor and conductor ribbon/foil used to transfer the energy to usable power in thin film modules.
